Acousticube IIa

Another piece of German kit built like a tank*, a 100w full-range acoustic instrument amp within a one-foot cube! Expensive, but exquisite sounding and powerful. Lots of inputs for piezo pickups, preamped guitars/ukes/mandolins. Lots of outputs for pa systems, sub-bass etc. Notch filter to reduce low frequency feedback, phantom power for mikes/pickups.

Also sounds great with an ES175 for clean jazz sounds. Basic onboard digital effects like reverb, delay and chorus, dedicated footswitch enables recall of the princely sum of two memory settings.

 * It went wrong after 28 years of service, started compressing heavily when the guitar was hit harder, making it impossible to use.  Absent an obvious UK contact, I asked AER HQ and was directed to a UK service partner – Surrey Ampswho were spectacularly useless and sat on the repair for months ?.  Eventually I clawed my way via AER and UK distributor Westside to Fretronics, who fixed it in a couple of weeks ?.  Ten months later, it’s back and working as well, if not better than ever.  Just as well I didn’t need it to gig ?
