I wasn’t looking for this one. It just turned up on my feed and I thought it was very pretty and very cheap. Anderton’s in Guildford, UK, had a couple in stock so I dropped in to have a look. It also comes in a rather dull dark sunburst but I have a thing for gold guitars.
One was ok, the other exceptional – guess which one this is? Every bit as playable as the Tom Anderson Drop Top I used to have which cost far more, and the pickups (cheap as they might be) are better!
Best for cleaner work, it’s bone stock except the original rather weak neck pickup is replaced by a wonderful Sunbear Broadcaster, and I’ve replaced the original chromed steel string saddles with intonated Wilkinson brass ones (£13].
The tuners are very cheap, with chromed plastic buttons, one of which rattled until a drop of superglue fixed it. (I met someone at a gig who had bought one from my YouTube recommendation but had had to change his tuners).
Anyway, what started as a whim has turned out to be a keeper.
